description

Jointly owned by Nunavut Iron Ore and Arcelor Mittal, the Mary River Mine, operated by Baffinland Iron Mines Corporation, is a high-grade iron ore mine located on Baffin Island, Nunavut. This mine site is part of one of the most northerly mines in the world. Among the richest iron ore deposits ever discovered, the Mary River property contains more than nine high-grade iron ore deposits that can be mined, crushed and processed into marketable products.

...in an environmentally and socially responsible manner for the benefit of all stakeholders, the ThyssenKrupp conglomerate decided to use a process that followed the same guideline and so hot-dip galvanizing was chosen for the steel structure.

Following the announcement of the expansion of this mine, one of our clients, Coastal Metals Ltd. approached the German multinational conglomerate, ThyssenKrupp which is focused on industrial engineering and steel production. Last August, the Biglift Barentsz approached the Port of Baffinland to deliver a rail-based precast material handling system that Baffinland acquired from ThyssenKrupp. The first river discharge included the 2 large structural steel buildings planned for the mine expansion. Knowing that Baffinland is committed to operating the Mary River Mine in an environmentally and socially responsible manner for the benefit of all stakeholders, the ThyssenKrupp conglomerate decided to use a process that followed the same guideline and so hot-dip galvanizing was chosen for the steel structure.
