description

Over the next few years, workers at the Canadian Parliament Rehabilitation site will work slowly and fastidiously to individually number, remove, refurbish and then return each and every stone that makes up the historic Canadian Parliament Building complex in Ottawa, Canada.

"Hot-dip galvanized steel was chosen for the supporting structure because of its long lasting coating that would provide structural security as well as pleasant aesthetics over the life of the structure"

Hot-dip galvanized steel was chosen for the supporting structure because of its long lasting coating that would provide structural security as well as pleasant aesthetics over the life of the structure. Also important in specifying this project was having a material durable enough to stand up to the shock and abrasion sure to occur during the constant disassembly and reassembly of this structure around the Parliament buildings. Life cycle cost was taken into consideration, as well. The taxpayers of Canada are the final benefactors of galvanizing in this project, as the durable, maintenance-free structure will facilitate the thorough refurbishment of this important symbol of Canadas longstanding democratic legacy.
