STE-MARIE DE BEAUCE MULTIPURPOSE OVERPASS

The Beshro family Suspension bridge in Saint Marie de Beauce is the longest span pedestrian bridge in the province of Quebec at almost 700 feet.  A dimension almost as important is its usable width of 10 feet which is key to its mandate of serving not just pedestrians but all sorts of leisure conveyances such as snowmobiles, four-wheelers, bicycles and skis.  It also eliminates the need for inherently dangerous ice crossings that sadly have often taken the lives of winter enthusiasts.

With a mandate to serve all the outdoor activities popular in the region including motorized ones this bridge needed to have high load capacity, a wide pathway as well as an attractive design with no in-water columns in a river notorious for dangerous ice jams.  These criteria combined with a desire to have a slim attractive profile led to the obvious selection of an all steel suspension bridge.
